5 Major trends in the state of News Media

Journalism.org is in its second year of reporting on the State of the News Media. In what appears to me to be a pretty objective report, they identify 5 major trends, one of which will be of little surprise to CMVers. They state "The traditional press model - the journalism of verification - is one in which journalists are concerned first with trying to substantiate facts. It has ceded ground for years on talk shows and cable to a new journalism of assertion, where information is offered with little time and little attempt to independently verify its veracity. " Ain't that the truth! There is quite a bit of good content on their site, and they discuss the many different incarnations of news media. I recoomend a good perusal of their site.
Journalism is the one solitary respectable profession which honors theft (when committed in the pecuniary interest of a journal,) & admires the thief....However, these same journals combat despicable crimes quite valiantly--when committed in other quarters.- Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) in a Letter to W. D. Howells, 10/30/1880
